WE TEND TO FORGET

James Earl Jones and Cicely Tyson are two actors whose creatve worK has greatly affected me. In this interview, Ms. Tyson shares her views on her work in the movie “Sounder” and it’s connection to the history of Afriican people. In the interview she says, “…regarding our heritage yeah, well you know, one of the things that I uh find myself being concerned about is, our tendency to forget. Uh one of the reasons why I’m so proud of Sounder is that it is is uh part of our history. And I think as we move along and we move away from the things that we consider in some way unpleasant or depressing, that we tend to forget that they are

sometimes are the rocks on which we are standing.” Such a beautiful statement about the power of a theatrical work to be a foundation for understanding.
