SIMPLE THINGS ARE MORE UNIVERSAL

There so many profound understandings that are shared by Mr. Ray in “How Satyajit Ray Directors A Film:  The Director’s Chair.  I appreciate this so very much: “I like simple themes. Simple emotional situations. I think simple things are more universal than complex ones. It’s all a matter of telling the story in the best possible way.”

For me, there is a universality in the human condition.  All humans feel joy, pain, excitement, sadness, etc.  These emotions translate across cultures and socio-economic conditions.

When Mr. Ray states that “So, I am a product of both East and West almost equally. But as a filmmaker, my roots are deep in India.” The fact that Mr. Ray acknowledges the influences of the West, but reaffirms his deep connections with India, is a powerful statement for me.
