Harry Belafonte was from the island of Jamaica. He was multi-talented, and had a hugely successful career as an actor and as a singer.
Mr. Belafonte’s greatest influence on my life and the lives of millions of others was through his sacrifical work as a civil rights activist. Mr. Belafonte was a close friend and supporter of Dr. Martin King, Jr. As Dr. King’s supporter, he used his fame and influence to fight to end bigotry and hate in America.
